Health 101: Tamekia Nicole

Health 101 is all about presenting different perspectives on living healthy lives. Health is not a one dimensional thing, and with each story another layer of understanding what living a healthy life encompasses is gained. I am so excited to bring you an interview with Tamekia Nicole as she shares some of her journey with us. She epitomizes hella freshness with her raw honesty, and insights on how your health isn't just your own.

How would you define healthy living?

How would I would define healthy living as anything that makes you feel good from the inside out, whether it be clean eating, working out, engaging in educational stimulation, or being in an intimate relationship.  Obvious healthy living will be seen in how you carry yourself every day to those around you.

Were you always healthy, or was there a turning point in your life that made you decide to become healthier?
I wasn’t always healthy. I spent almost 10 years abusing my body by using cocaine; snorting and smoking it, and excessively consuming alcohol.  My turning point was seeing how my body began to react to these substances, my level of paranoia, and my cognitive ability to function was rapidly deteriorating and ultimately my 1 year stay at a women’s prison in Nevada.

What piece of knowledge would you like to share with others?
The biggest lesson I learned about being healthy, is that your unhealthiness affects everyone who is connected to you, and it brings their healthiness down a level because they are constantly worried about you and your health.
What's the one product or practice you can't live without?
A healthy practice that I can’t live without is honesty, it’s important to recognize that honesty especially brutal honesty is essential to being healthy.  You cannot promote a healthy existence and lie to yourself or others.

What piece of advice would you give your 20 year old self?
I would tell my 20 year old self this…. “Tamekia you are worth it and your body is a temple, you should treat it as such.”
What make you hella fresh?

Being able to stand up and carry on with life after being stepped on by those who said they love me countless times makes me HELLA FRESH!

Where can we find you in the webosphere?

  1. I really am honored at the opportunity to be able to be honest and possibly helping someone else who thinks that a less than perfect past will stop any forward progress.
