So thrilled to present my first male interviewee for Health 101! Dante has an amazing spirit, as you will feel as you read his thoughtful words. I am truly inspired by his conviction to being the best him. I recently witnessed as he underwent a 24 Day No Unnatural Sugar Journey. His daily meditation: Surrender; move from thinking....to doing....into being.
How would you define healthy living?
This is a very intriguing question. My belief is that it starts from within, with one's mind. When a person's thoughts about themselves and what life is to them are healthy, everything else aligns. For example, I must have the belief and hold true the idea of "I want to be healthy" before it can ever come true. For me, the idea of healthy living includes not only a healthy body (i.e. exercising, and knowledge of the nutritional value of what I eat), but it also means thinking positive thoughts about myself, being loving and kind to myself, and being the best me I can be for myself (first), and others.
Were you always healthy, or was there a turning point in your life that made you decide to become healthier?
I think it's been a mix of experiences. For example, researching certain foods, speaking to physicians about the benefits of healthy foods, as well as risks involved with consuming unhealthy foods. Working out came easier because I wanted to look a certain way, but I have always struggled with eating the right foods. I love sugar, and I love almost every kind of sauce there is. I still struggle with eating the right foods, though it is a conscious set of daily decisions. My main consideration has been and currently is: What effects does what I am eating have on me? Do I get tired from what I am eating, or does it provide me with optimal energy to sustain me and make it through my day? Also, does what I am eating lead to or aid any illnesses (i.e. diabetes, cancer, etc.) These are huge considerations for me, due to my level of responsibilities and current commitments.
Before + After = Inspiring Although I must say, that before is a lot of people's dream afters! |
What piece of knowledge would you like to share with others?
Two things. One - Added Sugar is toxic, and does our bodies no good. It is one of the fastest and quickest ways to destroy and break down our bodies. Two - life is about balance. It is important to remain aware of portion control, types of foods being consumed, as well as including exercise. We are all a constant work in progress, and it is important to continue doing the work. This has been the universe's greatest gift to me (aside from life itself).
What is the one natural product you can't live without?
Fresh juices. I love orange and carrot, orange - kale - banana, apple and kale, orange - apple - kale, orange - raspberry - kale, and the list goes on. I also love grapes!
What piece of advice would you give your 20 year old self?
You can do anything you put your mind to. Disregard any negative energy and comments by others. You have everything it takes to be happy inside of you.
LOL....I had to laugh when I read this question. I don't consider myself hella fresh in any way. I am really an average guy. If I had to choose one thing, I think it would be making decisions that support a better me, the best me; even when I don't feel like it or when it's not what I am wanting to do. Many times l desire things that may not be right for me. I find that when I make conscious and logical decisions based on what will be best for me, I feel better about myself, and better about life.
Where can we find you in the webosphere?
Thus far, I have mostly done blogs on Facebook (Dante King), but am planning on starting a healthy living blog soon. I have been inspired to do this to help inspire others. You can also find me at any local gym in the mornings...LOL(4 a.m. workouts).
Thank you very much for giving me the opportunity to share with others. My hope is that at least one person is blessed by this reading.
